Household Hazardous Waste (HHW)

The Cherokee Nation will be hosting a series of Household Hazardous Waste Collection Events this coming spring and summer. These events will be open to all members of the communities in which they are held. This is the second consecutive year that Cherokee Nation Environmental Programs (CNEP) has received grant funds from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to support and conduct these events. Locations where we completed Household Hazardous Waste Collection Events include:

  • Fort Gibson: October 17, 2020
  • Miami (Ottawa County): October 24, 2020
  • Stilwell: November 14, 2020

Cherokee Nation Environmental Programs (CNEP) also completed two (2) Electronic Waste Recycling Events in:

  • Tahlequah: September 4, 2020
  • Collinsville: September 11, 2020

Cherokee Nation Environmental Programs has been very successful with this Hazardous Waste Grant. A total of 43,027 pounds of waste has been collected between (2) Electronic Waste Collection Events & (3) Household Hazardous Waste Collection Events for a total of 5 Collection Events! A big shout out to all of the City entities (City of Fort Gibson, City of Stilwell, City of Miami and the Adair County Trash-Off) and all of our Tribal partners (Eastern Shawnee Tribe, Miami Tribe of Oklahoma, Modoc Tribe, Ottawa Tribe of Oklahoma, Peoria Tribe of Indians of Oklahoma, Quapaw Tribe of Oklahoma, Seneca-Cayuga Nation, Shawnee Tribe and Wyandotte Nation) that assisted in making each event a huge success. We could not have done any of this without such a great support system and we look forward to working with everyone again in the future. Until then, remember to REDUCE. REUSE & RECYCLE! ♻️✅🌳
